Johnny Ruiz is a retired American professional boxer who was active from 1992 to 2010. He was born on March 4, 1972, in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Ruiz was known for his durable chin and his ability to take punishment and keep fighting. He held the WBA heavyweight championship twice, from 2001 to 2002 and from 2003 to 2005. During his career, he fought against some of the top boxers of his time, including Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr., Hasim Rahman, and James Toney. After retiring from boxing in 2010, Ruiz became a trainer and has worked with several up-and-coming boxers.
